The SOS Children's Village in Bakoteh, The Gambia, has a nursery home for babies.

Here are some of facts about the nursery for babies at the SOS Children's Village Bakoteh in The Gambia. Then, at the end there is nice few lines about one baby in particular. Enjoy:

Thirteen little smiling faces and four dedicated women welcome you in their special house at SOS Children's Village Bakoteh. Life in the nursery home is quite different from life in any other family house in the village.

Since 2003, the nursery home offers a temporary home for abandoned babies during an eight-week period, while the Social Welfare Department looks for relatives or foster parents to take care of them. After this transition period, the Social Welfare Department would, if no alternative solution was found, officially ask SOS Children's Villages to take the little ones in an SOS family house.

Out of the 32 babies (19 boys and 13 girls) taken care of in the nursery home from 2003 to 2005, ten are now members of one of the SOS Children's Village families in Bakoteh. However, due to family house capacity constraints, some babies are enjoying a longer stay in this babies' world before they move to their new home.

To run the house, four committed carers stay there during the daytime, and two of them spend their nights there, on a rotational basis. As of today, thirteen babies have found love and care under this special roof. While the younger ones are just a few weeks old and spend most of their time sleeping, the older ones - who are up to 15 months old - are showing great interest in the world surrounding them.

Musa is one of these little ones eager to discover life. He is a strong and friendly 15-month-old boy who always welcomes you with a big smile. Although he is very gentle with all his housemates, they have to be very careful when the time for the milk bottle comes: he is a fast drinker and would always come to snatch their own bottle for a little more milk!

His friend and roommate, Kawsu is about the same age. When they are together, the two boys talk a language that is only understandable to them. Both are already able to explore the world by themselves, which raises the envy of many others who are not yet able to stand on their feet!

Some facts about the SOS Children's Village Kotayk.

Following the devastating earthquake in Armenia in December 1988, SOS Children's Villages decided to offer immediate aid to the children who had lost their parents. It soon proved necessary to offer long-term help after the emergency relief activities had been completed. A suitable plot of land was identified in the town of Kotayk, just outside the area that had been destroyed. Construction of the first Armenian SOS Children's Village in Kotayk started in 1989. It was built out of earthquake-proof, pre-fabricated elements, and in summer 1990 the SOS mothers and their children were able to move into the newly erected family houses.

Since there were no pre-school facilities in the vicinity, a provisional SOS nursery was set up in one of the family houses, and it was later replaced by a specially constructed SOS nursery in 1995. On 18 April 1998, the SOS Children's Village Kotayk was officially opened. The SOS Youth Facility consists of three youth houses; the first was opened in February 2001, a second in 2002 and a third one in 2005. Since 2006, SOS Children's Villages Armenia has initiated family support in Gjumri (April 2006), Yerevan (January 2007) and Idjevan (January 2008). These programmes offer support to families who are at risk of abandoning their children and enable children to grow within a caring family environment. Together with local authorities and other service providers, SOS Children's Villages supports families and helps them to take good care of their children.
