Four boys playing outside in the snow Social Centre Borovljany,…
One of the reasons I like this charity is that it is thoughtful about children's needs. I see this in the the way older children are helped to transition from being a child into a young, responsible adult. I have been reading about three youngsters from SOS Children's Village Borovljany, Belarus who live in a house escecially for children following further education. The house is only five minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from the SOS village where they grew up and where their SOS mother lives.

Four boys playing outside in the snow Social Centre Borovljany, Minsk.
One of the reasons I like this charity is that it is thoughtful about children's needs. I see this in the the way older children are helped to transition from being a child into a young, responsible adult. Living in the house helps the youngsters become more independant and to support each other in their studies.
One of the boys comments "At home I made food out of the ingredients we had, but here I have to go to the shop and get the produce first. The hardest thing here is to wake up at the right time."
Another boy added "Today, for example, we made Macaroni cheese. We share the cooking so I cook for all of us one day and for the next few days my friends cook for me and them. My mother says I should eat only fresh food!"

A snow-covered garden in Children's Village Nan Chang, China.
The first families moved into the SOS Children's Village Nanchang in 1994. It consists of 12 family houses and an SOS nursery, which is open to children from both the SOS Children's Village and the neighbourhood.
Nanchang is the largest city of the southern Chinese province of Jiangxi. The SOS Children's Village is situated in the north of the city, not far from a large national park called Nanchang Forest Park.
The village site has extensive green areas with many flowers and trees so that it provides a very attractive environment for the children to grow up in. The relations with the population of the neighbourhood are particularly friendly. The village children attend nearby Nanchang Forest Park School.
Youths from the SOS Children's Village move to the SOS house for children continuing their education, which consists of a house inside the village and some flats outside. With the support of qualified youth workers, the young people develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions.
