Children at the backyard of their house, they are beneficiaries of our family support, which helps families to stay together by teaching skills and setting them up in business so they can support themselves. This one is in Comitán, Mexico.

One of the largest Latin American states and rich in natural resources, Mexico has established itself as a key economic player within North America, but poverty remains a significant problem throughout much of the country.

Rural areas are often neglected, with large numbers of the population migrating to urban areas in search of work and better living conditions, resulting in large shanty towns on the edges of towns and cities.

To help this rural situation in Comitán the SOS Social Centre runs a day-care centre, which consists of six group rooms, a dormitory and a multi-purpose hall. It cares for 150 babies and children, both from the SOS Children's Village and the local community. Furthermore, the SOS Social Centre supports the local community through different measures of family support, for example by organizing childminding programmes or special workshops for parents.
