A view of a flooded community in Los Mina, Dominican…
As I have said before, in previous conversations, SOS, working on the ground in as many countries as it does, is well placed to react quickly in a crisis. I have found another example, to share with you, where that quick reaction was important:

A view of a flooded community in Los Mina, Dominican Republic.
As I have said before, in previous conversations, SOS, working on the ground in as many countries as it does, is well placed to react quickly in a crisis. I have found another example, to share with you, where that quick reaction was important:
In June 2004 the SOS Children's Villages was continuing to provide relief to flood-hit communities in the Dominican Republic. Aid distributed included food, medical and water supplies.
The SOS relief team made a number of visits to communities in the areas worst-affected by the flooding. During one three-day visit, the SOS team stopped in La Barquita (located close to SOS Children's Village Los Mina), La Descubierta, Jimaní and Nagua, and distributed 318 boxes of clothes, shoes, kitchenware, blankets, towels, food and drinking water to families in need.
SOS Children's Villages also formed a team of psychologists to provide support to children suffering physically and emotionally as a result of the natural disaster.

Flood-victims having their meal at SOS camp Emergency Program Purnia, India.
I have found report that will interest you, it is about helping newborns in SOS relief camps in India:
On August 18 2008, the Kosi River in Nepal burst its banks and submerged many inhabited areas, destroying homes and crops. After it changed its course, it wreaked havoc in Bihar, India, forcing countless people to flee their homes, most of them taking only the bare essentials with them. As the water level gradually receded, 300,000 people were left homeless.
In response to the flooding, SOS Children set up three relief camps that are provided shelter, food, and medical services to those in need. "We are providing cooked food, like hot rice and pulses with green vegetables," says an SOS staff member. "We have ready-made packs comprising of flat rice, sugar, salt, candle, biscuits, cloths, match boxes, soap and baby food".
Pregnant women in particular are desperate for adequate medical services. Gopal, aged 69, lost his home and his crops. His daughter gave birth on the roadside and needed urgent medical attention. SOS staff from the nearby SOS relief camp in Purnia heard what had happened and took her to the camp for the medical staff to look after her. 25 expectant mothers are also at the camp receiving help. Gopals daughter and granddaughter are now doing well.
