A family outside their home they are part of our family support at the SOS social center Hargeisa, Somalia.

The house of this family is made from discarded fragments of materials. This is a family of four children and a single mother. By any standards it is going to be hard work bringing up children in these circumstances. SOS has been improving how it works in Somalia so it can help more families like this. This is what I found out about these improvements.

For a long time, SOS Somalia has been supporting families only with their work at the Mogadishu hospital. The 2008 plan was to establish family support in Hargeisa and Berbera in Somaliland.

Family support in Mogadishu now happens in more coordinated ways. The program works closely with communities to identifying needs and the best ways of addressing them are targeted at 1,000 people in families in the three areas.
