This little boy was a street child. I have been investigating the kind of future a street child might be able to have with some SOS support.

Here are some stories of successful young people who grew up in Brazilian SOS Children's Villages. All of them are looking forward to a promising future.

Paulo Cesar, Edilson and Patricia are three of the many young adults that have grown up in the SOS Children's Village Brasilia. SOS Children Brasilia offer a series of workshops dealing with the motivation and behavior of teenage children so as to help them get a good job and have an enjoyable life.

The program includes topics such as the job market and work relationships. The young adults look for supportive partnerships with local social organizations, governmental programs, and to starting their own initiatives and enterprise.

Paulo Cesar (21)

"I arrived at SOS Children's Village Brasilia when I was six and grew up in the village" says Paulo Cesar, today a successful computer programmer. His daily routine begins at 6:30 am when he leaves home to get to work on time. After a long working day, he leaves his office at 5:30 pm, but not to relax; he goes to a local university where he is setting up information systems. "I will soon finish my training and become a professional in networking systems," he says with pride.

Throughout his life, Paulo Cesar has received lots of training to become successful. So, today, he enjoys sharing his knowledge with other boys and girls who have just begun to dream of their future. "Take the maximum advantage of opportunities given to you," he states. "We are what we want to be."

Edilson (18)

Has been working as an assistant at the Cabinet of the Minister of Education for ten months. Edilson is one of eleven youths from SOS Children's Village Brasilia who work for the Ministry. "I arrived at the village 13 years ago. Something that I remember with thankfulness is the support of my SOS mother Silvia. Thanks to her, I studied English, Spanish, and computer science. Edilson has just decided to study law at a local university.

Patricia (18)

"SOS Children's Villages is a wonderful project that gives children the opportunity to grow and to make a dignified life in society," says Patricia. She was welcomed to SOS Children's Village Poá in São Paulo at the age of ten. Today she is a Judo champion and is seeking to participate and compete for medals in many international competitions.

This little boy now lives in Children's Village Poá, Brazil.

This is the same little boy you talked about above, in his new SOS home, reunited with his older brother. By reunited I mean that the brothers now live together in the same SOS home.

One of the important things SOS Children does is to keep families together. So natural brothers and sisters grow up together, as it should be. Here is some of the work SOS Children's Villages has done in Brazil to keep families together, and care for children who are alone.

Altogether SOS Children in Brazil cares directly for over 1,700 children in 180 family homes. In many villages SOS Children built and ran SOS Primary Schools for the local community.

As well as the fifteen SOS Children’s Villages, SOS Children has 26 SOS Social Centres attached to the villages which help the wider community. These provide day care and nursery school education for vulnerable children. In addition SOS Children helps vulnerable children and their families with family support, respite and temporary housing and care for street children.
